Nice site.... I have known my Aunt Doris has been researching this for years and I am glad to see it progressing along.  Stats on us: We live in Lafayette. I married Donna Kay Ping from Cicero, IN. We have two children, Tiffany (1989) and Michael (1991). I am an Optometrist with Lafayette Eye Center and Price-Whitson Vision Group. Donna is a substitute teacher with Tippecanoe School Corp.  My brother Bruce L. McManis, Ph.D. lives in Louisiana and is married, no children.  My mother, Eileen (widow of Donald L. McManis, Ph.D.) lives in Muncie.

My Mothers Maiden Name is:- Agnes Boyle McManus. My Grandfather is Edward McManus.   His family originally came from Northern Ireland, and most of them went to America.   I am trying to trace this side of our family. My maternal grandfather's name was Thomas Jerome McManus. He was born in Bemidji, MN on 4 July, 1913. His Parents were Thomas Edward McManaus and Margaret Kiley McManus. He had 3 sisters (Regina, Theresa, and Mary Ellen) and one brother (John). Thomas passed away on 2 April, 1993 in Clarkston, WA. Any information would be appreciated! Thanks!

Allen Norton McManis (page 7) is my grandfather. His wife, however, was Cecelia Anna Gabinsky (not Meeker). His dauther, Ruth, living in Colorado, is my mother. I have two half-sisters also living in Colorado, a sister living in Tacoma, a deceased brother, and a deceased half-brother. I have four sons, one granddaughter, and nine grandsons, all living in Anchorage, Alaska.

My grandfather's name was William McManus who married Isabelle Sorrell.  They lived in San Diego, CA, but orginally came from back east around the PA, MA, NH, RI area.   I know my grandfather had like 4 or 5 siblings.  I have been trying to locate any of the McManus family name members, for they somehow might be linked to my family.   William McManus and Isabelle McManus had only one child, which happens to be my mother, Barbara Ann McManus Franc.  My parents met in PA area around the 1940s or so.   I'm trying my best to find both sides of my family but I seem do be going in circles now.  I do not know to much about the McManus family, and the ones that I did know are now deceased, so there's actually no one to ask any questions.  If any one is to have any info whatsoever I would very very very much appreciate it.  I'm in need of finding my family roots.  Please e-mail me at gdeverman@aol.com thank you Diana Everman.

My Great grandfather came to the US from Ireland, I am not sure where he settled first, but his son, Howard Thomas McManus, settled in Black Rock New York, His son, (my father) currently 77 yrs old and living, Settled in the Wash D.C. area. I know that my Grandfather had 1 brother who I believe headed towards Ohio.  Any clues would be great.

My great grandfather was John McManus (b ~ 1855? IRE d ? IRE).  John was married to Mary Jane - nee Lennon (b ? IRE d>1937 IRE) John and Mary Jane lived at 59 Raglan St, County Antrim (District of Belfast No. 4 ) in 1897. They had two children, Hugh (b1897 IRE - d1982 CANADA ) and Annie (b? IRE-d>1960 IRE).  John was a National School Teacher in 1897 and is recorded as being a retired School Inspector in 1927.  Hugh emigrated to Canada (via Yorkshire England ~ 1929). Annie remained in Ireland and to the best of my knowledge was never married !  Hugh & Annie may have had 5 older paternal siblings, 3 half brothers - Wilfred, XXXX, and XXXX, and 2 half sisters all born prior to the early 1890's. I believe Wilfred McManus also chose teaching as a profession. There is some suggestion all 5 did ? If you can help with my search please reply.

Grandfather John James McManus came from County Cork Ireland, born 1872, Father John Verle McManus borth 2/16/1901.

My grandmother was a McManus, 1894-1973. Her father was John Bernard 1864- 1922. His father was Charles McManus born in Fermanagh Co., Ireland 1844 to1916. His father was Bernard McManus, b. about 1806 in Ireland, died in Chillicothe, Missouri in 1894. I am looking for a Laura Bell McManus. I don't know anything in her past, but do know that she married Edward Jonathon White in the late 1800's and had, among other children, a daughter named Audrey Bell White (Audrey went on to marry William Evan Chapman and they were my great-grandparents). The families resided in western PA, near Pittsburgh. If anyone had any leads on any of them please contact me, this site is the first break I have had following her line. Thank you.

My great grandfather, Patrick McManus, came from Enniskillin, Ireland and emigrated to Canada around 1840. He had been married in Ireland. When he first arrived in Canada, he was accompanied only by two children from this marriage, Patrick and James. He later married Frances Casey of Frederickton, NB by whom he had five children including two sons, William and James, and a daughter, Mary Lillian, all of whom later lived in the San Diego area. He had another son William who died very young. His fifth child, Henry, my grandfather, was a country doctor who raised his family in Washburn, Maine.

My "step" grandfather was Frank J. McManus, who married my grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth Brogan Sommers. Her first husband was John J. Sommers/Summers.

Frank was from Pennsylvania, and they resided during their married life (they were in their 70's, when wed, I think, certainly their 60's!) they lived in Manayunk, Pennsylvania. Please help me find out about Frank! He was a most wonderful man.

My wife's name is Carmel McManus from Ballinamore County Leitrim.  Her father Peter McManus is alive today aged 91 - he was from Corraleahan, Drumreilly, Ballinamore County Leitrim.  He worked in Canada Cutland Lake in the 1930's.  I believe he had another brother who also emigrated to America and died there.  She has lost contact with the family but she has cousins she has never met.  Anyone help??

Just found your site & read through your guestbook. I'm looking for information on Silas B. McManus. I know he is related, but not sure how. Great grandmother was Eva McManus, married Charles Carlton Eaton. Her parents were Nelson & Adelaide McManus and Nelson's mother was Fidelia Bettes. There were in the Indiana area I believe. Going to search your database . . . looks nice!

Looks good, but is no-one interested in going back to the Irish families? I assume yours came from Ireland? I only ask because I'm trying to find descendants of my McManus ancestors - distant cousins, etc. Mine were from Co Fermanagh, Co Cavan and Dublin, and I'm interested in those prior to 1862. All contacts will be acknowledged, and if I can help I will.

I am looking for James McManus who mother's name was McGuire born in Lisnaskena, Ireland - went to England and lived with the Gilberts.  James married Mary Faulkner daughter of Tom and Ann (Mulligan) Born in Billanderia, Ireland, reared in Lancashire County, England by aunt and uncle named Gilbert.  They came to New York as newlyweds, had nine children.  I am also looking for John Armstrong Logan from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.  Came to America somewhere around Detroit?

I have traced my ancestor Bernardus Garvy (Garvey) and his spouse Maria McManus registered in the christening records of VRI (Vital Records Index -British Isles giving details of their children's christenings, Patrick, Mary, James, Bartholomew and Bridget in Roman Catholoic, Aghanagh, Sligo, Ireland although birthplace of Bernard and Mary is known as Roscommon. Natalie, I am a McManus from Chambers County, Texas, (near Houston) and basically our whole McManus family lives down here. We are related to R.O.W. McManus. He fought in the Battle of San Jacinto for Texas Independence. I don't know if you are familiar with that or not. He came from New York with his sister Jane McManus. My great grand-parents are John Cazneau McManus born in Chambers County, Texas in 1876 and Magnolia Canter McManus born in Athens, Alabama in 1875. My brother Charles R. McManis from St Louis gave me the heads-up to this site. He has a fair amount of info on our family and I think has been in touch with you. Our family, which was mainly located in Kansas when I was a young boy, came from Southeastern Ohio. Our parents Lester & Ruth McManis, age 89 yrs and 87 yrs respectively, are alive and well and live in Dayton, OH.

Natalie's online Photo Album has been of great value to me; I've found a surprising range of resemblances between our early McMannis/McManis relatives! My 1st-gt-grandfather was James McMannis (wife, Martha) of Wilkinsburg, Allegheny Co., PA, who stemmed from the William there in 1800. He eventually settled in Connellsville, Fayette Co., PA, in Bullskin Twp-- same area as some of Natalie's family. Strong indication that our families connect!

We are trying to find the name of my grandparents, John McGovern and Bridget McManus circa. 1829 to 1913, County Cavan, Ireland, in the area of Curlough Chapel, Curlough Townland. Also my maternal grandparents, Philip McGovern and Briget McManus {not the same one} approx. same time in County Cavan, Altenadara Townland.

My Father Herbert Joseph McManus was born Sept 29,1902 in St. Vincents Hosp, Toledo, Ohio. He was raised until 12 yrs old at St Anthony Villa Orphanage, Toledo, Ohio. We later learned he was born out of wedlock to Agnes McManus but we can find no records except his baptismal. He tried all his life to find out who he was and about his family. Please help me now continue.

I have been looking for my maternal great-grandmother for several years without success. He name was Anna Marie McManus. She was born in Laurelville, Md around 1860 as near as I can gather. She married (Joannes) John Peter Schmidt prior to 1886, in Maryland, probably around Towson. They had 6 children, William John 1886, Francis Joseph (my grandfather) 1888, Anna Marie 1890, John Peter 1892, Margaret or Maggie 1895 and Ida Agnes 1897. John Peter died in December 1897. The widow placed all 6 children in various Baltimore orphanages which I found 4 on the 1900 census.. She remarried; no one remembers who and died around Christmas sometime in the mid to late 1920's. This is the total of my knowledge of my mother's paternal lineage. Do any of the names sound familiar to anyone? thanks ...carolyn

Mary Hannah McManus b. May 28, 1868 married Daniel Joseph Sloniger b. Apr 1, 1863. Marriage was Apr 15, 1892 in Marion Center, PA.  Mary's father was John A. McManus b. Jul 20, 1836 and married Dec 30, 1858 to Margaret C. Hopkins.  John's mother was born in County Down, Ireland.  Need all other inf. on this family! Thanks.

George B.1856 may have been b. in Mo. mar. Henerette Kissee 1892 Mo. lived in Marion co. Ark. until 1919.

My father, Jay Wilbur McManis, was married to Zora Wilson McManis. They lived in Kansas City, KS for most of their married life. You have a really neat web page ... lots of info ... lots of McManuses. I'm at a stand still with my research. My Grandfather John Francis McManus was born in Streator, Ill. in 1893. His father Terrence McManus died in 1895 when John (married Ernstine Kelly) was 2 years old and John's sister Margaret (married Jack McCusker) was 4 years old. We have some connection with New York as Terrence acquired from a relative Thomas McManus who was in the New York region, an expensive imported dining room set (Chippendale) which came from England and came in through the New York Harbor. Terrence McManus was married to Brigid Higgins. After Terrence died, Brigid moved to Milwaukee with her two children and married a fellow named ___?____ Regan. They had 7 more children. Have no other information on our McManus heritage but would like to know more.

I am looking for info on John Jackson McManus. Born in Penn 1857. Fathers name was Thomas from NYC. Moved to Superior, Wis married Martha Elliott and settled in St. Paul, Mn. Died there 1938. Don't know if he is related to this clan, but any info is appreciated. On a related item, Hennessy's were living in Greensburg, Westmoreland Co in 1850s (Dennis and Catherine Hennessy with sons John and Maurice), was there any relationship between Hennessy and McManus back then, as there was eventually in Mpls in 1920 when John Hennessy and Lyma McManus were married.
