SurnamesWOODRUFF, WILSON, OSTERHOUSE, ALLENSWORTH, CAGE, SHANE, MENOUGH, MCGEORGE FamilyI have been searching my family line for over twenty-five years. My earliest WOODRUFF is John who was allegedly born in 1804 somewhere in NJ. I got that info from OH census records. John was married to Rachel Shane and later to Margaret Jane Osterhouse in Jefferson County, OH. He had one son, John S. WOODRUFF (b. 1830)with his first wife. His 2nd wife provided him with a daughter, Matilda J, born 7 Apr 1856 in Knoxville, Jefferson, OH. and a son William, who was born after John's death in 1858, also in Knoxville. He was buried in Toronto, Jefferson, OH. John is my 2ggrandfather. Does anyone out there have any information that can get me away from this brick wall? My head is starting to get sore. CommentsI enjoyed going thru your site. It would have been really great to find something. I never realized there were so many Woodruffs in America. Thanks!!

His two sons both born in Onatario Canada are Elijah born 1847 and Nelson born 1850. Nelson I kinda lost track of though. I can't seem to find anything on him as of yet. Elijah had two sons who are Rolland Simmons born in 1887 in melvin Michigan and Vernon Clair born in 1893 in Michigan. Rolland had two sons who were born in Melvin Michigan, Laverne born in 1915 and Burton born in 1916. Laverne happens to be my grandfather who died in 1979. All of these Woodruffs are buried in Sanilac County Michgan. CommentsExcellent!!!
SurnamesWOODRUFF, BENNETT, CRAIN, WASHBURN, BOSTICK FamilyGrandfather William Bennett m. Lucy Jane Woodruff in Portsmouth, Scioto Co. Ohio, dtr of Isaac Woodruff and Mary Polly Bostick. Isaac was the son of Benjamin Woodruff and Nancy Marvin. CommentsVery Helpful
SurnamesWOODRUFF, NEASE FamilyI know nothing about a Woodruff connection; however, since Nease is one of the names listed on your site, I'm am searching for a branch of the family originally residing primarily in Greene County, TN. My grandfather was Otto Barb Nease, b. 5/25/1871, m. Martha Louella Frances Kiker. My father's name was Andrew Martin Nease, born in the Dallas, TX area. There are also some distant cousins living in the Oklahoma area, so apparently a group of Neases migrated to Texas and Oklahoma (most likely know as "Indian Teritory" at the time).I do know that the families of my grandparents fought on opposite sides in the Civil War. CommentsThis appears to be a good starting place to trace ancestors.
SurnamesWOODRUFF, Canter, Haburn, McGown FamilyI am from Wellston, Jackson Co., Ohio. I know a Sue Woodruff from here. CommentsI am just starting my research on the Canter's and found your site very helpful. Thank you
SurnamesWOODRUFF, Amanda FamilyI am the great great grandson of Amanda Woodruff (number 78 on your list). Amanda's Woodruff forebears were: Joseph, son of Joshua, son of Benjamin, the first name on the list. My great grandmother was Amanda's daughter, Helen Miner. My grandmother was Helen's daughter, Amanda Nadine Jones. My mother was Amanda Nadine Jones daugther, Glenyce Jones. I love this site! Didn't know I had another Revolutionary War veteran as a forebear.
SurnamesWOODRUFF, SIMPSON FamilyMy earliest know kin is George W. Woodruff. He was living with a Dorothy LAW, who was listed as Head of Household in the 1860 census for Meigs County, Ohio. I feel that Dorothy had re-married to a "LAW" male and then had a daughter named Sarah in 1851. I do not know who George's father was or Sarah's. CommentsThis is one of the best WOODRUFF sites on the internet!!
SurnamesWOODRUFF, Hill FamilyI am trying to locate the family of my Great Great Grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Woodruff (b. 11/11/1863 in New Jersey, d. 7/12/1937 in Monmouth Illinois.) So far I've hit a dead-end. I'm pretty sure that Sarah is from New Jersey because she lists New Jersey as her birthplace in the 1920 census. Also, two of her five children were born in Morristown - Flossie Hill (b. 1/31/1886) and Maida Hill (b. 1/12/1891). I can find absolutely nothing on Eugene H. Hill other than several family documents list him as being Sarah's husband. Sometime after 1891 they moved to North Carolina, or least another child, Homer was born there 9/13/1893. Later they settled in Monmouth Illinois and had two more children. I do not know when or where Eugene Hill died. I have a handwritten letter that Sarah wrote a family member in Monmouth the year she died so assume she died there but can find no record. I would truly appreciate any help you might be able to provide. Warmest Regards, Kim Aglietti
SurnamesWOODRUFF, BRANT FamilyMy great-grandmother was Mary Woodruff Brant Tarbell Saul, whose parents were John C. Brant and Mary W. Brant, whom I presume was a Woodruff. Mary W. B. T. Saul had an "Aunt Louise" who lived at Tenth and Fifth Avenue, which was the home of Thomas Tyson Woodruff and his family in the second quarter of the nineteenth century. A Louisa Woodruff was living at the Thomas Tyson Woodruff home according to the 1850 census, but so far I have been unable to tie Mary W.B.T. Saul's mother, Mary Woodruff (?) Brant to that family. The John C. Brant whom she married was "a great friend of Horace Greeley, and provided the first capital to begin his paper." according to notes from funeral biography of one of his grand-daughters. Any info on this group would be appreciated. Comments
SurnamesWOODRUFF, FamilyI started doing a "Family Tree" of my family just about a year ago. My mother remarried to a Kenneth Keith Woodruff a few years back. In my research of his family members, I have traced his family to be part of the "New Jersey Woodruff Family". I have not shared this with him yet. I am saving it for his 62th birthday party during our visit to his place in Tulsa, OK during the Thanksgiving Holidays. I am sure he will be very surprised and pleased to see "His" family tree and how far back it goes :) THANK YOU for posting this web site!!!! Rudy CommentsA very well laid out website with plenty of good information. Only addition I would like to see is the various sources of the listed data.
SurnamesWOODRUFF FamilyI descend from Nathaniel Woodruff of South Carolina; he went to Hopkins County, Kentucky. Our Woodruff line goes back to NJ, then over to Kent, England, Fordwich. CommentsLove your site, glad I found it !
SurnamesWOODRUFF, Homer WOODRUFF, J. H. FamilyI am attempting to obtain information regarding my grandfather. He married my grandmother, Jewel Belle Broomfield, in January 1919 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I know very little about him other than he went by Homer Woodruff, but I located a photograph which has a note on the back showing the initials J.H. I contacted a cousin of my mother and she was a child at the time, but remembers him only as Homer Woodruff. My mother died in 1973 and I believe in 1972 she and my father went to as I recall Texas at the time of his death. My grandmother and mother refused to talk about Homer Woodruff. I did find out that he struck my grandmother several times and the last time five of her brothers and four brother-in-laws paid him a visit and he just left Oklahoma City to never return. I have researched just about every Woodruff Family line in Oklahoma and Texas with no results whatsoever. I have found a Homer Woodruff who died in California in 1972 and shows a Social Security Number issued in Texas and showing a place of birth as New Jersey. Can anybody help, I am about to give up. CommentsI sure learned a lot from this site. I am sure what I am looking for is here somewhere.
SurnamesWOODRUFF, Giles, Cornelius FamilyGreat Website! My husbands GGGrandfather was Picket Woodruff Jr. I shared a lot of this history at our last Reunion in Hillsdale, PA. Most of our living and known Woodruffs are living in PA, Ohio and Arizona. Thanks again for a wonderful website!
SurnamesWOODRUFF, LANE, PALMER, PERDUE, RALEY FamilyMy name is Melissa (Woodruff) Seimetz. I was born in Paducah, KY (McCracken Co.) I am the daughter of Martin L. Woodruff, also born in Paducah, KY. My grandfather, Martin Woodruff, was born in Union Co, KY, in 1883. He was the son of John J. Woodruff and Sarah (Lane) Woodruff. John J. and Sarah were married June 1, 1880, in Union Co. KY. This was John Joseph's 2nd marriage and Sarah's 3rd marriage. They also had another son, Walter Woodruff, born 1885. I do not know anything more about Sarah, other than her 2nd marriage was to a "Palmer" and she had several children, but the only name I know is Lee Palmer. John Joseph's 1st marriage was to Mary Palmer and they had John, Harriett, Jackson, and Maria. John J. was the son of John and Dolly (Smith) Woodruff. What information I have on John and Dolly, along with Joshua and Benjamin, I have found on your website. CommentsI am tickled to have found such wonderful information on the Woodruff line. I truly hope that I can be of help to others in the future ... as I have had wonderful help and I would like to pass that along. |
